Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) is een jonge vrouw die op vreselijke wijze gedwongen wordt om drugs te smokkelen. Per ongeluk komt zij in aanraking met de drugs, die haar op een mysterieuze manier bovenmenselijke krachten geven. Ze kan kennis direct absorberen, is in staat om objecten met haar geest te verplaatsen en ze kan geen pijn of leed voelen.
