A Polish fan-powered symphonic tribute to Dream Theater is nearing completion after two years of effort – and the results will be performed live at a concert in December.
Dedicated fan Michal Mierzejewski is close to delivering his album after receiving support from the band’s former drummer Mike Portnoy and his colleague Neal Morse.
He came up with his concept for Symphonic Theater of Dreams in 2010, four years after DT played a one-off show in New York with a full orchestra – but insists the album is something entirely different.
Michal was able to recruit unofficial band artist Stephen van Baalen, also known as Steve Theater, to create visuals for the release.
Five of the six tracks were chosen by fans on the prog metal outfit’s forum. They’re accompanied by an overture composed by Michal himself.
He arranged and co-conducted the material, which was played by the Sinfonietta Consonus orchestra and co-conducted by Ariel Ludwiczak. Bartosz Kropidlowski played classic guitar.
