Rush Albums
Collection 1973-2013

Rush is een Canadese progressieve rockband, bestaande uit 
Geddy Lee (zang, bas en toetsen), Alex Lifeson (gitaar) en 
Neil Peart (drums). Rush werd opgericht in 1968 door Alex 
Lifeson (gitaar), John Rutsey (14 mei 1953 - 11 mei 2008) 
(drums) en bassist Jeff Jones. Na verloop van tijd wordt Jeff 
Jones vervangen door bassist/zanger Geddy Lee (eigenlijk 
Gary Weinrib). Thuisbasis is Toronto, Canada. Ze coveren 
dan alleen werk van bijvoorbeeld Cream, Jimi Hendrix en The 
Who. Totdat hun eerste album verschijnt treedt eerst nog 
een toetsenist toe, die weer verdwijnt; Geddy stapt uit en 
dan weer in de band en Rush is voor een tijdje zelfs opge-
heven. In 1971 wordt het de groep toch menens. Toen in 
1974 het titelloze debuutalbum verscheen bestond de band 
uit zanger/bassist Lee, gitarist Lifeson en drummer John 
Rutsey. Op dit eerste album liet Rush een sterke invloed van 
Led Zeppelin horen. Nadat Rutsey nog hetzelfde jaar de groep 
verlaat wordt Neil Peart aangenomen als vervanger. Hij wordt 
de belangrijkste tekstschrijver en zorgt voor meer diepgaande 
teksten dan daarvoor. Bij Caress of Steel gaat Rush al lang-
zaam meer richting progressieve rock, met kant 2 (toen nog 
op lp met 2 kanten) als goed voorbeeld daarvan, gezien de 
opbouw. Met 2112 maakt Rush definitief de stap richting 
progressieve (hard)rock met wederom een nummer op het 
album dat een hele lp-kant beslaat.
