Amazon Editorial Reviews
If You Want Loyalty Buy A Dog is the culmination of a 25 year long musical partnership between producer Adrian Sherwood and musician Skip ''Little Axe'' McDonald. Skip's roots lie in the blues, Adrian is considered one of the world's most versatile and prolific dub producers and a sonic visionary.
The new album features the legendary drummer, Style Scott. From start to finish this is a dynamic and uncompromising meeting of both forms of Roots music; reggae and blues. Immaculately played and defined as never before.

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the best February 12, 2012
I have to admit I dont own everything from Little Axe AKA Skip McDonald so I cant really compare it to his long history of music but having said that, this is very different from his last album "Bought for a Dollar, Sold for a Dime", and I think both albums are fantastic. The reason for the difference is because "If you want Loyalty Buy a Dog" is another On-U Sound production which means Adrian Sherwood has had a big influence over the sounds whereas "Bought for a Dollar..." I believe is heavily Skip himself. The old crew Style Scott and Dub Syndicate are there along with Roots Radics to help give this album a very roots reggae dub feel, it brings back so much of what it used be to like with On-U Sound and they havent lost any of the potency, in fact this is one of the best recordings I have ever heard from them. Little Axe with his beautiful guitar playing is what makes it the best.

5.0 out of 5 starsPerfect blend of cultures. May 18, 2012
I found this little gem while looking for a new copy of an African Head Charge LP. What a great surprise. To be honest I feel a bit of a fool. This is the sixth record from Little Axe, how did I miss the first five, starting with Wolf That House Built. What's past is past, my embarrassment wanes, soothed by the music. I know about Little Axe now and there is no going back.
I envision this album to be the music bubbling under Skip's fevered brow. Songs manifesting as hummed bits in the shower, driving to the store, demanding to be brought to the light of day. Fragments of a lifetime playing music threating to boil over in Skip 'Little Axe' McDonald's blood. What an amazing tour-du-force showcasing a great guitarist working his mojo, while Mr. Sherwood, Style Scott and friends form the channeled spirits of music old and new into a bit less amorphous form. I am glad to vote with my wallet that these artists continue in their work, join me.
