Synopsis:

Gambir has it all.  A beautiful wife, a lovely home and a thriving career as the hottest young sculptor in Jakarta.  But darkness lies hidden just beneath the surface of Gambir's seemingly perfect life.  His wife forbids him entry to part of his own home, his artwork hides a truly horrific secret, and cryptic notes from an unknown supplicant begging for his help lead Gambir to a secret society paying for made-to-order violence watchable on closed circuit television.  Fusing elements of film noir with Park Chan Wook's icy precision, touches of the Lynchian surreal and sharp, sudden shocks of extreme violence THE FORBIDDEN DOOR is a compelling head-scratcher of a picture.

Inhoud:

Een succesvolle beeldhouwer, wiens leven altijd al is beheerst door zijn dominante vrouw en moeder, ontdekt een geheime organisatie. Hij komt erachter dat leden van deze obscure organisatie puur als tijdverdrijf disfunctionele, verstoorde families kunnen volgen via verborgen camera's. Wanneer hij op een gezin stuit waar het jongetje vreselijk wordt mishandeld door zijn ouders, voelt hij zich geroepen om hem te helpen. Deze zoektocht leidt hem echter terug naar zijn eigen huis, waar een geheime deur het antwoord zou kunnen zijn op vele vraagstukken.
