³º Italian band ASTRA is back with a vengeance with º ³
³º their 3rd CD, and this release should definitely º ³
³º spark some serious interest from fans of º ³
³º Progressive Metal served with some testosterone. º ³
³º I wasn’t familiar with the band until this º ³
³º release and it has helped to restore my faith in º ³
³º “old school” Progressive Metal – These days, º ³
³º other than SYMPHONY X and DGM (guitarist º ³
³º Emanuele Casali is also a member of these º ³
³º Italian Prog monsters), not much really grabs my º ³
³º attention these days. ASTRA definitely has a º ³
³º very similar style to the aforementioned bands, º ³
³º but also puts their own spin on things and come º ³
³º up with some serious hooks that have latched º ³
³º onto me and become my most played CD of the º ³
³º month!s º ³
³º º ³
³º From the opening track “Losing my Ego”, the º ³
³º listener is treated to hearing some seriously º ³
³º talented musicians create songs that at times º ³
³º have commercial appeal, but also rock with a º ³
³º heavy Progressive groove. Vocalist, Andrea º ³
³º Casali, (who apparently has taken over the reins º ³
³º from departed vocalist, Titta Tani), does a º ³
³º fantastic job here and brings to mind “The º ³
³º Diveine Wings Of Tragedy” era Russell Allen. The º ³
³º guitar solos, while technical, are not the type º ³
³º that can only be appreciated by musicians. I º ³
³º hear a lot of melody and emotion in Silvio º ³
³º D’onorio De Meo’s skilled playing! The solos are º ³
³º very well written, but the songs themselves just º ³
³º reached out of the speakers and grabbed my º ³
³º attention right from the first spin. “Risk And º ³
³º Dare” currently ranks as my favorite track, but º ³
³º to my ears, there is no filler to be found. º ³
³º º ³
³º This disc really impressed me and I have to º ³
³º admit that I was skeptical going in as 2 of my º ³
³º current favorite bands are PROTEST THE HERO and º ³
³º INTERVALS - I am totally sold on this one. I º ³
³º could easily see this band playing ProgPower USA º ³
³º in Atlanta, GA next year and being the band of º ³
³º the night. Here’s to hoping that promoter Glenn º ³
³º Harveston hears this band, as it would certainly º ³
³º encourage me to make the trip in 2015. º ³
