Post Description

If you have a mobile phone, a car, or even a washing machine, you are affected by software in mobile or embedded systems. If your workplace has a website, it will increasingly be viewed not only on computers but on phones, tablets, and other mobile devices. If you are testing software, your future may include more and more testing on such devices.
Much of traditional testing wisdom can be applied to testing in this new and growing space, but traditional wisdom is not enough. Special considerations and concerns for testing in embedded systems are known to some specialists but too few general testers. Many are now finding that they need to test on mobile devices and are encountering unexpected problems and wondering how they should be testing in this new space.
This book fills a need in two major areas: first, for traditional testers when moving into the mobile and embedded area, it bridges the gap between IT and mobile and embedded system testing, showing how to apply some traditional approaches and outlining new approaches. Second, for those working with mobile and embedded systems who may not have an extensive background in testing, this book brings testing ideas, techniques, and solutions that are immediately applicable to testing these devices.
Using the framework of attacks popularized by James Whittaker’s books, Jon Duncan Hagar describes those that are relevant here and extends the approach with new attacks specifically for mobile and embedded systems. He provides detailed information and guidance on how to test more effectively and efficiently in the mobile and embedded world. Some of the attacks may be familiar but are more important for these devices. Some attacks may need to be applied in different ways. Some of the attacks may be completely new to you. In any case, Jon shows you what to test and how to test, giving ideas that you can use to do better testing of mobile devices now and save yourself serious trouble later on.
Jon’s extensive experience (much of it in the embedded world), his thorough research, and his deep knowledge give this book a solid foundation and provide helpful guidance and steps to take in applying testing attacks to mobile and embedded devices.
