At around the same time Cool Boarders was released on the PlayStation in the U.S. and was roundly criticized for it's broken control, a snowboarding title developed by an obscure (o me at lease Japanese development outfit, TV Tokyo Pony Canyon released a Saturn snowboarding game called Zap! Snowboarding Trix. Word on the net had it that it was superior to the Sony effort, and it was. Clean graphics and tight control made Zap a solid title, which sadly never saw a U.S. release. About a year later Saturn owners saw another 'boarding game come their way, Steep Slope Sliders, which had a great deal going for it. It ran extremely smooth 30+ fps, had even better control tricks were easy to perform and a cool soundtrack with a most excellent jukebox/video trip toy feature in the options screen okay the two vocal tracks were laughable Day-toh-naaaaah, anyone?, but alas, it lacked a race mode. Overall it was a strong title, and was chosen by Sega for U.S. release over the game I am reviewing here, Zap! Snowboarding Trix '98.
