Hairy Bikers Everyday Gourmets 5 of 6 Luxury Lunches
Cue the mournful sound of a brass band as the Bikers head to Settle in Yorkshire to make a slap-up lunch for Ruth, a devoted cook and dinner lady at a pensioners’ club.
Ruth is made of stern stuff so she doesn’t blub, even during the Snow Patrol moment at the end when the surprise, organised by her husband and daughter, is revealed. She’s very fond of Indian food, so Si King and Dave Myers have prepared her a spicy shepherd’s pie. If that’s not your thing the Bikers show us how to make a pork pie with prunes and apricots. Myers admires his handiwork while adding, cryptically, “There’s a pie in everybody and sometimes I think of us two as the midwife.”
About this programme
5/6. Si King and Dave Myers demonstrate how to create gourmet lunches on a tight budget, receiving tips from one of Britain's leading Indian chefs and getting insider advice on buying wine on a shoestring. Finally, they put everything they have learned to the test when they arrange a surprise meal for a dinner lady.
